The Town Council is delighted that construction work is starting soon on the Newton Leys Public Art Project, ‘Alphonso’, which will be a seating and focal point on the top of Little Callow Mound. Alphonso will be a three-sided archway made from combination of bespoke and reclaimed bricks, as well as hand-painted tiles referencing the story of the local area.
Artist Sarah Staton worked with the Town Council, a local steering group and Milton Keynes Council in developing this new Art Work. Alphonso has been designed with full community involvement and reflects aspects of local history.
Construction work is due to begin next week (week commencing Monday 19th October). Whilst work is ongoing, access to Little Callow Mound will be restricted so please keep off the site.
We really look forward to seeing this exciting work completed as it is also part of the long term S106 commitments made by Taylor Wimpey and we hope it will further enhance Newton Leys.
