Interested in helping Milton Keynes become the greenest city in the world and carbon neutral by 2030? Please see the information from Milton Keynes Council below:

Milton Keynes Council is asking for environmental experts, as well as local people and businesses, to share views and evidence on how Milton Keynes could be transformed into the world’s first ‘post-carbon’ city as part of an upcoming Scrutiny Task and Finish Group.

Task and Finish Groups undertake in-depth investigations so that councillors are better able to scrutinise council or partner actions on a particular topic of local importance. They call on the help of expert witnesses to provide evidence.

The Council has established a Task and Finish Group to research and make recommendations into how it can achieve ambitions for Milton Keynes to become carbon neutral by 2030 and carbon negative by 2050, helping to tackle climate change.

The group is calling for evidence from subject experts and academics into how that ambition might be achieved, drawing on best practice nationally and internationally, as well as seeking feedback from the business community, schools and residents.

The group will take evidence in writing or in person at evidence giving sessions to be held between October and January.

Chair of the Task and Finish Group, Cllr David Hopkins said: “In January 2019, the council set itself the ambitious aim of becoming the greenest city in the world. We believe we can achieve that ambition and would welcome evidence from interested parties and academics and subject experts that help us reach that goal. We look forward to hearing from people keen to help MK set the benchmark for cities across the globe in tackling climate change at a local level.”

Written Evidence should be submitted by 31 January 2020 at the latest. Please contact Roz Tidman on 01908 254589 or roslyn.tidman@milton-keynes.gov.ukor Roz Tidman, Milton Keynes Council, Civic, 1 Saxon Gate East, Milton Keynes MK9 3EJ.
